Policy Paper no. 2. Four years since the human rights crisis in Belarus: Filling the accountability gap

Dr. Anaïs Marin, Associate fellow with Chatham House and UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus, “Four years since the human rights crisis in Belarus: Filling the accountability gap”. Belarus Network for Neighborhood Policy, 2024

Four years have passed since the illegitimate presidential election in Belarus, which sparked widespread protests and a severe government crackdown on opposition. As the human rights situation continues to deteriorate, it has largely fallen off the international radar. Despite the alarming reports of human rights violations—some potentially amounting to crimes against humanity—perpetrators remain unaccountable. In light of these pressing issues, our recent policy paper offers a comprehensive examination of the ongoing crisis and the urgent need for international accountability mechanisms.
